A company that once was known solely for indoor and outdoor electric barbecue grills is now a major retailer of all things cool in the kitchen. Maverick Industries, founded by Edward Mackin in 1982, was the major player in the grill business until the early 90s when the company realized it needed to change its strategy due to market saturation.
Maverick indeed found its niche. Instead of limiting itself to large appliances, the company shifted its focus to smaller electric items like steamers, pasta makers, toasters and other basic products while maintaining its line of grills.
Today, it's not certain which Maverick is more known for ... its grills or its digital cooking thermometer. Maverick introduced the first digital cooking thermometer in 1991 as an instant-read cooking thermometer for outdoor grilling. The thermometer was an instant success. It wasn't long before the thermometer became an integral part of Maverick's line of products.
Maverick's introduction of the thermometer came out just as the USDA launched a big push to educate American consumers and cooks to use meat thermometers to test their food. This was an obvious boost to business.
But Maverick didn't stop there. In 1998 the company created the first remote cooking thermometer, the ET-7, which has been wildly successful. Today, Maverick is a leading producer of digital thermometers in the United States.
Maverick's RemoteCheck Instant-Read Thermometer and Monitor is a hit with professional and amateur chefs all over. The thermometer helps you keep track of the internal temperature and cooking time of either one or two separate locations ... maybe the oven and the grill. It includes a beeper with a range of 75 feet that will alert you when both items are done ... at separate times. Perfect for families with finicky eaters. Maybe the kids want homemade pizza but you've already got a roast in the oven? Put that pizza in, at the same temperature, and the Maverick remote thermometer will alert you when the pizza is done (long before the roast).
Maverick also offers a Candy & Oil Thermometer,, which is ideal for homemade candy or deep-frying. The thermometer boasts 14 pre-programmed settings, perfect for the baker who's mass-producing candy or even for Mom, who wants her holiday candy just right for the family.
Maverick also has come up with other cool kitchen gadgets. The Maverick food slicer is a deluxe household slicer with a 7-inch stainless-steel slicing blade. Don't worry, though. The kids will be fine. The slicer is outfitted with a bevy of safeguards to ensure that only food - not fingers - comes into contact with the cutter. The Maverick slicer is safer than commercial slicers because the product, whether you're slicing bread, roast beef of cheese, is held in place with a press plate and glides along a feeder track. Never are your hands actually on the food.
Your Maverick Bean Pot will be the center of attention at your next dinner party. The glazed stoneware bean pot has a temperature range from 115F to 195F and is perfect for making great bean recipes from scratch. Included is a pot thermometer (of course, it's Maverick!) and a bean recipe book with 10 great recipes for bean soup.
Maverick certainly hasn't forgotten about its dedicated grill customers, either. Many accessories are available, including the Portable Grill Light, which attaches to your outdoor grill and provides plenty of light when you're barbecuing at night. You know how tough it is to check your steak under a dim patio light. The portable grill light has a 10-inch adjustable neck that allows you to position it to suit your grilling needs. It includes four AAA batteries and fluorescent light bulbs. It's also heat-resistant.
Maverick offers a plethora of unique kitchen products, including electronic kitchen scales, digital cooking thermometers, egg cookers, clocks and timers. Whatever your kitchen needs, Maverick has it.
